O CÂNTICO DOS ANDRÓIDES

Para os Kraftwerk, a realidade é um filme de ficção científica, em que as máquinas desempenham o papel principal. Ou pelo menos metade do papel. O conceito de “homem-máquina” permite compreender a filosofia de Ralf Hutter e Florian Schneider, dois revolucionários que preferiam ter metal em vez de pele e um compuador de bolso no lugar do coração.



Como Ray Bradbury, os Kraftwerk “cantam o corpo eléctrico” e, de acordo com as regras inerentes a um mecanismo perfeito, desprezam a emoção humana. Ou como gostam de dizer: “O frio também é uma emoção.” Em veza das reacções primárias desencadeadas pelo rock ‘n’ rol, preferem a “emoção mental” provocada pelos sintetizadores. Ao suor e às descargas de adrenalina desencadeadas por uma guitarra eléctrica, instrumento que consideram “medieval”, contrapõem a linguagem implacável dos dígitos e a perfeição do computador.
Brian Eno, David Bowie (que inclusive dedicou um dos temas de “Heroes”, “V 2 Schneider”, a Florian Schneider), Arthur Baker e os Afrika Bambaata de “Planet Rock”, a “Houde” de Chicago, ou os jovens ingleses electropops de cabelo rapado, são devedores das inovações “techno” destes dois alemães, para quem a música, mais do que uma arte segundo os preceitos tradicionais, é uma técnica que não admite o erro humano.
Paradoxalmente, os americanos renderam-se ao ritmo de “Autobahn”, “The Model” e “Showroom Dummies”, dançados sem preconceitos nas discotecas. O paradoxo de uma música “fria” e “mental” que afinal consegue seduzir os sentidos. Talvez por os Kraftwerk, como Ralf e Florian farantem, terem conseguido introduzir o ritmo do corpo na música electrónica.

Folk Industrial

Numa Alemanha devastada pela guerra, onde tudo se reconstruía, os Kraftwerk renegaram o passado histórico do rock para partirem à descoberta de algo inteiramente novo, expresso, a partir de “Autobahn”, no conceito de união entre o homem e a máquina. Fechados no estúdio Kling Klang (um laboratório onde “fazem coisas científicas”) em Dusseldorf, Ralf Hutter e Florian Schneider buscam sem descanso a resolução definitiva do conflito entre o humano e o maquinal.
Seja na descoberta de novos meiso electrónicos de produção musical (aos Kraftwerk se deve a invenção de um modelo original de sequenciador ou de uma célula fotoeléctrica capaz de traduzir em impulsos sonoros os movimentos do corpo) ou em teorizações mais ou menos fascizantes, o objectivo permanece o mesmo: criar uma “música folk industrial em que as máquinas sejam tratadas de igual para igual com o homem no processo criativo”, uma “música que destrua a oposição entre o homem e a tecnologia”.
Importante, no processo de criação artística, é – segundo afirmam – a “troca de energia entre o humano e a fonte de energia”, numa relação dialéctica escravo-senhor (exemplarmente caracterizada em “Voice of energy”, do álbum “Radio Activity”), em que o homem ora é mestre da máquina (por exemplo na programação de um computador) ora se torna seu escravo (na medida em que essa programação acabe por ser condicionada pela estrutura e pela lógica intrínseca da máquina).
Segundo os Kraftwerk, é necessário que o homem se torne “amigo” das máquinas, se quiser impedir a sua revolta (a poluição seria assim um grito de protesto das máquinas, fartas de ficar sempre com os trabalhos “mais sujos”). No fundo, trata-se de um jogo de poder que só terminará quando acabar a exploração da máquina pelo homem. Não são as máquinas que são demoníacas mas os homens, que não sabem lidar com eleas – “um carro”, por exemplo, funciona melhor se for “bem tratado” – ironizam.

O Culto Da Despersonalização

Trilogia do “admirável mundo novo”, “The man machine”, “Computer World” e “Electric Café” traduzem na perfeição toda essa estética que Hutter e Schneider assumem como filosofia de vida: celibatários convictos, a maior parte do tempo é dedicada à pesquisa de estúdio e à procura de novas sonoridades electrónicas. Compreende-se agora melhor por que razão ninguém, neste campo, os consegue igualar.
Não descuidam a imagem, no seu caso uma anti-imagem, composta pelo ar distante e pelo envergar sistemático de fato e gravata (como resposta ao facto de “hoje em dia toda a gente usar “jeans”) ou na escolha de poses que alguns identificam como inspiradas na ideologia nazi. Os homens-máquinas afirmam que apenas gostam da “uniformidade” e que nunca usaram suásticas. O culto da despersonalização é levado ao extremo com o recurso em palco, nas capas de discos ou nas (raras) entrevistas, a manequins-réplicas que procuram simbolizar a natureza androide dos originais.
Para Ralf Hutter e Florian Schneider é tão simples como isto: “Nós tocamos as máquinas e as máquinas tocam-nos a nós.” Neste processo de simbiose gradual entre o organismo biológico e o organismo cibernético, a etapa final está em “converter directamente os impulsos cerebrais em sons audíveis” e a técnica, capaz de materializa-la, terá que passar pela “derradeira forma musical – a telepatia”.

O Corpo Novo Remisturado

“The mix”, novo disco de remisturas e novas gravações de temas antigos, funciona assim como uma recapitulação ou um compêndio documental onde se demonstra a eterna mutabilidade dos “cânticos androides” kraftwerkianos, chamemos-lhes assim, susceptíveis de infinitas variações e múltiplas reinterpretações.
Se em “Autobahn” é a compressão do tempo e em “Radio activity” a sua actualização (através da referência explícita a Chernobyl) ou em “Trans Europe Express”, pelo contrário, a sua dilatação levada ao barroquismo, em qualquer dos casos, trata-se sempre de expor, nas suas múltiplas formas, a natureza e a “carne” infinitamente plástica de um “corpo novo” surgido das cinzas do velho mundo. Como se os Kraftwerk tivessem conseguido finalmente concretizar o sonho de Frankenstein e ultrapassado as monstruosidades de Cronenberg.
