A cantora canadiana retorquiu, queimando os \u201ceighties\u201d como a d\u00e9cada da decad\u00eancia e do materialismo. Mas Joni condescendeu e estes quatro trabalhos podem ser considerados os mais fracos da sua discografia. Afastada da veia jazz\u00edstica e experimental de \u201cThe Hissing of Summer Lawns\u201d, \u201cHejira\u201d e \u201cMingus\u201d, entrou de cabe\u00e7a na pop mas deu-se mal com a superficialidade de uma m\u00fasica formatada no lado mais plastificado da electr\u00f3nica. Se \u201cWild Things\u201d pode ser apreciado como opera\u00e7\u00e3o de simplifica\u00e7\u00e3o, com entrada no rock FM, \u201cDog Eat Dog\u201d desce aos baixos da electropop e \u201cChak Marks&#8230;\u201d afunda-se no lodo de colabora\u00e7\u00f5es pouco enriquecedoras (Peter Gabriel, Willie Nelson, Tom Petty, Billy Idol). Em \u201cNight Ride Home\u201d, felizmente, Joni sacudiu a poeira e as ramelas dos olhos e arranjos, despertando de novo para as grandes can\u00e7\u00f5es.
