Sem o monstruoso sucesso editorial que serviu na \u00e9poca para lan\u00e7ar a editora Virgin, talvez n\u00e3o tivesse sido pos\u00edvel a grava\u00e7\u00e3o posterior, nesta mesma editora, de nomes como Henry Cow, Hatfield and the North, Robert Wyatt, Slapp Happy, David Vorhaus, Gilgamesh, Comus ou, do continente, Gong, Faust, Clearlight, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Ashra e Wigwam. Mas o tempo passou e Mike Oldfield, ultrapassado um ciclo que ainda proporcionou obras de nomeada como \u201chergest Ridge\u201d, \u201cOmmadawn\u201d, \u201cIncantations\u201d, \u201cFive Miles Out\u201d e, num \u00faltimo f\u00f4lego, j\u00e1 nos anos 90, \u201cAmarok\u201d, decidiu que ele e \u201cTubular Bells\u201d constituem um casamento para a eternidade. \u201cTubular Bells III\u201d reduz-se a um amontoado ass\u00e9ptico (como a capa) de truques baixos apontados aos tops dos hipermercados. Ele \u00e9 a pl\u00e1stica tecno em \u201cThe Source of Secrets\u201d, os assomos de hip-hop nado-morto em \u201cThe Watchful Eye\u201d, as notas \u201cc\u00f3smicas\u201d dos \u201cEncontros Imediatos\u201d, em \u201cJewel in the crown\u201d, a reciclagem camuflada de \u201cMoonlight Shadow\u201d, em \u201cMan in the Rain\u201d, o aproveitamento do achado neo-rom\u00e2ntico de \u201cO Piano\u201d, em \u201cThe Top of the Morning\u201d. Tudo embrulhado em caricaturas das melodias e acordes do \u00e1lbum original, para espica\u00e7ar a mem\u00f3ria. O mais penoso de tudo isto \u00e9 ver Rosa C\u00e9dron, dos Luar na Lubre (Mike Oldfield tem la\u00e7os fortes na Galiza, onde j\u00e1 tocou ao vivo, em clubes folk), perdida numa lamechice, em \u201cThe Inner Child\u201d.
